ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims to take both a critical and exhaustive look and review as to why the adoption rate of biometric technology is so low here in the United States when compared to the rest of the world. It examines the social factors which have impeded the adoption and growth rate of biometric technology here in the United States. The book reviews the development of e-passport infrastructure, and how the use of the various biometric modalities is now coming into critical play within it. It provides a serious discussion as to why the American public is very often exposed to the "bad news and stories," as opposed to hearing the "good news and stories" surrounding the use of biometric technology. The book also examines the movement from traditional methods of voting to the much newer methods of the e-voting infrastructure.
