ABSTRACT

Most all performers will wear a wig at some time in their career. Creating the most effective wig prep, by using pin-curls and wig caps, is an essential skill for them to know. Chapter 6 showcases the differences between synthetic and natural hair wigs as well as discussing different types of wig fronts and their benefits. A comprehensive list of wig styling products is identified – bobby pins, combs, wig blocks, etc. – and short descriptions of each are listed. The bulk of the chapter is broken into four sections. The first instructs students on how to use a bandage and clips to prepare short hair for wigs. Next, students are instructed on how to prep shoulder length hair using pin-curls, and students are shown the best method for the perfect pin-curl. The third section introduces students with long hair to the hair-wrap technique, an easy method for controlling lengthy locks. The final section discusses how to get textured hair into a wig prep. Extremely textured or thick hair can be tricky, but this section gives several methods on controlling it.
