ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part provides case studies and applications to illustrate the power of the partnerships between academia and practice in industrial and systems engineering. It also presents a model for a maintenance strategy as a value-generating action, rather than from a cost-centric approach for civil infrastructures. The part also provides a multidisciplinary and collaborative effort to applying Industrial and Systems Engineering approaches to combat human trafficking, a growing criminal economy. It discusses how productive and continuous initiatives can be employed using a change management model to introduce adaptable, deliberate, and systematic cultural change in an organization. The part also discusses technology commercialization in manufacturing process design. It focuses on real-time monitory and control of cyber-physical systems, specifically with respect to biomass-based energy production.
