ABSTRACT

Forensic psychologists need the right type of education, training, and experience, and there are numerous steps involved in becoming a forensic psychologist. This chapter focuses on the requirements for practicing forensic psychology after an individual has earned a doctoral degree, with specific emphasis on the laws, regulations, and ethics that govern the practice of forensic psychology. This chapter describes the processes of becoming licensed as a psychologist and achieving board certification in forensic psychology. Finally, this chapter discusses the ethical guidance applicable to forensic psychology, followed by a discussion of the regulation of psychology by state licensing boards.
