ABSTRACT

In order to evaluate classroom practice effectively, however, teachers need a frame of reference. Devised by mainstream teachers keen to improve their classroom practice, the self-contained pack includes four blocks of material which are intended to develop a teacher's evaluation skills. In order to evaluate classroom practice effectively it is important to focus on one aspect of the curriculum at a time. It is often difficult for teachers to determine priorities within a curriculum which allows pupils to make an active and positive contribution to society. The criteria for this prioritizing process depend upon the teacher's personal agenda. Progress in evaluating the curriculum depends on much more than commitment and the change; it also requires reflection. By inquiring into the curriculum experienced by the pupils and constantly questioning its relevance, it is unlikely that the curriculum remains the same. Changes in learning, however, can only be implemented through changes to the actions which affect that learning.
