ABSTRACT

This chapter presents various aspects of power system and mining equipment reliability. It covers power system reliability–related terms and definitions, service performance–related indexes, loss-of-load probability (LOLP), mathematical models for performing availability analysis of a single generator unit, mathematical models for performing availability analysis of transmission and associated systems, reasons for improving mining equipment reliability and factors affecting mining system reliability, mining equipment reliability measures, programmable electronic mining system failures, methods for measuring winder rope degradation, dump-truck tire reliability and the factors affecting their life, open-pit-system reliability, and problems. Four service performance–related indexes are presented separately, and the open-pit-system reliability covers open-pit-series and parallel systems. At appropriate places, the chapter contains examples along with their solutions, and there are 10 problems at the end to test readers’ comprehension in this area.
