ABSTRACT

For the purpose of the project a simple definition of collaboration was used–working together for the good of the client. In an attempt to identify and promote the principles of collaboration we continued to evaluate and modify the framework of the project over the five year period. During the lifespan of the project there have been many reports of collaboration in the field of special educational needs. Students were asked to suggest factors which facilitate collaboration. Despite support among professionals working in the field for the principle of collaboration, there are circumstances which create difficulties or may preclude any attempt at successful collaboration. Within the time constraints of the project it was not possible for the students to administer the remedial programmes, re-assess the child's needs and continue the collaboration. The principles of collaboration explored can be applied over a broad spectrum of situations in which 'partnership' is a desired outcome.
