ABSTRACT

Apassage in Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four states that, in the near future, all great works of literature will “exist only in Newspeak versions, not merely changed into something different, but actually changed into something contradictory of what they used to be”. 1 There is a term that has become much used in design circles in recent years, as well as in business management, that holds a similar contradiction. This is Design Thinking. It is a misleading phrase because it misrepresents the design process and, in doing so, diminishes the discipline while creating false expectations.
