ABSTRACT
New frontiers of the mind are before and if they are pioneered with the same vision, boldness and drive with which people have waged the war they can create a fuller and more fruitful employment and fuller and more fruitful life. Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s decision gave the United States an eighteen month head start for employing science in the war effort. Vannevar Bush was appointed director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development and given the authority to enter into contracts and agreements for studies, experimental investigations and reports. In 1963 when the first Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency sponsored time-shared computer systems arrived, Licklider set in action his Arpanet research. Thus the doors were opened to e commerce, e marketing, online shopping, internet banking, internet news and social media, to the realization of H. G. Wells’s world encyclopaedia and Bush’s memex, and much else.
