ABSTRACT

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) or Chung-I, is the daily medical practice in China. Chung-I incorporates traditional techniques and methods as well as herbal medicine. Chinese medicine recognizes complex mixtures of drugs and does not appreciate the advantage or effectiveness of a single drug entity. In addition to herbal medicine, acupuncture, and surgery, physical therapy, diet therapy, and massage are other features and techniques of traditional Chung-I. TCM is also the most pervasive and the most unyielding of the indigenous systems. There are four basic methods used to diagnose a patient. They are visual observation, questioning about case history, auditory systems, and taking the pulse. Acupuncture is another important branch of Chinese medicine. Morphine, digitalis, quinine, atropine, ephedrine, and reserpine are examples of outstanding remedies developed from herbal medicine. China is perhaps the richest country in the world in natural medicine.
