ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the role of food and nutrients in the prevention and management of breast cancer with the hope of allaying physician’s reluctance. Breast cancer is considered a very heterogeneous disease based on their individual response to different treatments and ultimate prognosis. Breast cancer is the most common cancer and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. Nutritional research has specifically investigated the effects of weight, diet, and healthy lifestyle in reducing the risk of breast cancer, improving survival, reducing comorbidities, and maintaining patients’ overall health. High intake of fruits and vegetables has shown a possible benefit in the reduction of breast cancer risk. Chemoprevention and management through nutraceuticals has become an acceptable strategy specially in the prevention of breast cancer. More comprehensive and organized approach is needed for future studies, and breast cancer patients should make an informed decision regarding the use of nutraceuticals specially in postdiagnosis state.
