ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how a manager can become more innovative. Innovation can also be enhanced by incorporating the tried and true practices of the world’s most innovative companies. The chapter also examines some of the best practices in innovation. For innovative behavior to take place in a company, it must be supported by upper management. An effective technique for developing an employee’s innovative leadership capabilities is to hold regular debriefs with them at the end of meetings. A company’s culture has significant impact on its innovative activity. The key for any department, division, or company is to examine how they support and reward the development of innovative and entrepreneurial pursuits. Innovative behavior can also be enhanced through deliberate practice. All innovative activity begins with an opportunity where a favorable set of circumstances creates a need or an opening for a new business concept or approach.
