ABSTRACT

This chapter describes techniques that help communities become more resilient. It explores how social workers can bring stakeholders together to create a collective narrative, to develop strategies to combat human rights abuses, as well as to conduct community activities to improve a city’s social capital and infrastructure. The city of Pittsburgh (a member of the 100 Resilient Cities project) is used as a case example. The chapter concludes with a discussion of global ecological concerns as illustrated by the life of a community in Israel.
