ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a classification for critical design factors while focusing on data in IoT-femtocell based applications for better femtocell-traffic modeling and deployment strategies in Internet of Things (IoT) environments. It presents and compares different performance evaluation techniques and tools that enable researchers to have accurate traffic-modeling strategies in order to predict the performance of the femtocells in IoT environments. The chapter also presents different femtocell deployment strategies and provides a summary of related research works to have better deployment planning approaches. It discusses some open research issues and provide future research directions. Femtocells create an exciting and promising market opportunity for Wireless Service Providers. The deployment of femtocells brings some changes in the architecture of the current macrocellular networks and creates new design challenges. In random deployment strategy, femtocells are randomly located within the coverage area of the larger cellular network.
