ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes a framework for Pervasive Sensing in smart cities based on an Internet of Things architectural model that integrates HetNets and data sources to support the smart grid project. It proposes a massive data-collecting network for Data Couriers (DC) in smart cities. The chapter provides a dynamic two-tier scheme that adheres to the social welfare of the Pervasive Sensing system by incorporating lifetime and capacity constraints while considering, delay, and quality metrics to assure the maximum gain. It reviews related work in the literature, and provides the utilized system models in this study. The chapter provides the details of the proposed HCPF approach. It provides results from simulations and experimental instances in practice showing the efficiency of framework when compared to two prominent heuristic approaches; Effective Fitness and Hybrid Search. The chapter considers a multi-tier telecommunication framework with three main components: the BS, DC, and the Wireless Sensor Network AP in a smart city.
