ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the four clusters of helpful attitudes for Single-session therapy (SST) therapists. The Power and Integrity of the Session; SST in Context; Slow, Steady and Humble; and Optimism. The focus of SST therapists is on the session itself and how they view it, their attitudes seem to centre on its power and integrity. The well-balanced humility, however, is linked closely with the therapist's optimistic views of SST as shown in the cluster of attitudes that the author has termed 'Optimism'. The SST therapists tend to think of SST as a contextualised, powerful way of working with clients where small but important changes can be set in motion by unflappable, but optimistic, practitioners utilising the strengths of the clients.
