ABSTRACT

Walk-in therapy removes obstacles to seeking help and thus the frustration that people often feel in trying to get state-funding psychological help is removed because accessibility is increased and made easy. A person can have a therapeutic session just at the right moment for them. It is generally the case that walk-in therapy where an appointment is not needed as well as Single-Session Therapy (SST) by appointment has the effect of reducing waiting lists. Walk-in therapy services are cost-efficient. The fact that no appointment is needed removes the waste associated with late cancellation or 'no-shows'. Also, the costs associated with 'overtreatment'. Therapists tend to find providing walk-in therapy highly rewarding since their clients tend to be very motivated. They are motivated because they are coming for help at the very point when they need to be helped rather than weeks or months after that point as a result of going through a lengthy assessment and referral process.
