ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a session structure that was designed specifically for use in a walk-in service. The client is asked to complete a pre-session questionnaire. This asks for the client's consent and focuses on their strengths, skills and values, and the responses help the therapist develop some questions that may be asked during the session. The therapist outlines the context of the session and explains the risks and benefits to the client, and any documentation is explained. The therapist works with the client to identify what is to be the focus of the session and what the client wants to get out of their conversation. The therapist and the client summarize potentially helpful new ideas or understandings might help, and specifically how to use the new understandings or ideas and these might be implemented. The therapist and the client summarise the work and the therapist may offer last-minute reflections on the impact of the work on them.
