ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the approach to Single-Session Therapy (SST) that developed 'Single-Session Integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy' (SSI-CBT). It outlines the approach that appears in Windy Dryden which shows that SSI-CBT has four points of contact. The four points of contact are: initial contact; pre-session telephone contact; face-to-face session; and follow-up session. Sometimes the pre-session contact is sufficient for the person, and SSI-CBT ends. This happens when the person becomes aware of how they can solve the problem during the session and is confident that they can do so. The purpose of this follow-up is to collect outcome data i.e. an evaluation of what benefit the client derived from the process; and service data i.e. information concerning what the client thought of the service that was developed so that improvements can be made.
