ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reviews the concept of financing terrorism and examines the theoretical approaches, which examine organisational and decision-making features of terrorist financing. It explains the financial resources and methods regarding raising, transferring, storing, layering and integration methods applied by terrorist organisations and their online activities. The book explores counter-terrorist financing (CTF) efforts and systems and the genesis of the new international CTF regime, its national and international applications, the existing tool box for CTF and the critique provided by academia. It provides a prelude for the case of Turkey and the dimension of the terrorist threats faced therein and suggests policy-related recommendations in terms of having a better CTF system in Turkey. The book offers possible future research and related questions in terms of terrorist financing for the policy makers and prospective researchers who desire to contribute to the field in the future.
