ABSTRACT

Irritability, memory deficits, slowness and attentional problems are the most frequently reported subjective complaints of closed-head-injured patients, months and even years after injury. The whole training period could therefore be spent on exercises using the memory strategies. Both the patient and the therapist thought there was no need for a second training period in view of the good results. Each method of remembering or retrieving information is always explained in terms of the memory rules. Although all patients were tested earlier in the Neuropsychological department, the criteria were checked in a short clinical neuropsychological examination before the baseline assessment took place. Evaluation tasks are administered in the same way and in the same time schedule for treated and untreated subjects. The poor functioning of his memory caused a feeling of inferiority, especially at work where all his colleagues outdistanced him and no one ever asked him anything about work-related subjects.
