ABSTRACT

Singapore has always relied heavily on trade to fuel economic growth and development. To help ensure a stable environment, Singapore has been active in signing free trade and economic cooperation agreements with countries in the region and globally. By the end of 2017, Singapore had more than 20 active free trade agreements. New initiatives are set to enter into force in the near term including the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Each agreement provides benefits for partner firms operating, and particularly investing in Singapore, as well as improving conditions and providing preferential market access for outbound Singaporean firms and investments.
