ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at some routes into researching teacher's own practice. Research into teacher's own practice can also be expected to support teacher's own commitment as a teacher, especially when teacher's career is focused on teaching and scholarship. The original model of scholarship developed by E. L. Boyer, indeed, proposed different forms of scholarship that were focused on discovery, integration, application and teaching. The most effective way to disseminate a development is to involve those teachers would like to find out about the project right from the start. Investigation is a central element in achieving scholarship of this depth, offering a rich vein of interactions with knowledge, practice, students and colleagues. Research into learning and teaching typically offers conclusions that are relatively limited in extent, given the unpredictability of human behaviour and the myriad of concerns that actually shape day-to-day practice.
