ABSTRACT

The analyst’s responsibility to provide a safe and serene space for her patients is examined. Her office was besieged for many months by intermittent noise due to repairs being on the surface of her building. At times, concentration on what the patient was saying became impossible. The analyst was conflicted about renting another office since the end date of this construction was constantly being estimated as the near future. As a partial solution she temporarily moved her patients into a larger study in her suite. Several case vignettes demonstrate the different reactions different patients had, from premature termination to deeper understanding of their intrapsychic conflicts as well as the transference.
