ABSTRACT

The final chapter highlights the book’s main contribution to knowledge, its limitations and how it opens up areas of potential research. It also highlights areas where T & L can potentially contribute towards development. While policymakers do not necessarily have to adopt the two ideal-theoretical indicators proposed in this study, this chapter is meant to prompt discussions and reflections on how HE and perceptions of quality can be framed in such a way that promotes human development. Rather than maintain and support the status quo, policymakers and other actors in the HE arena can begin to draw on human development in thinking about interventions through which universities can contribute to the greater good and not just focus on human capital creation. This is important, especially for developing countries that are in the process of formulating and strengthening their quality assurance systems amidst expanding HE systems.
