ABSTRACT

Systems with unreliable sensors are in frequent need of service in challenging locations, such as the top of a city streetlight, impact system success and directly impact the cost of servicing and operating the system. This perception of failure is, of course, problematic. A problematic Internet of Things (IoT) system with low systems manageability might be one where the system is difficult and/or nonintuitive to configure and operate. Such software systems lend themselves to system dysfunction as well as increased likelihood of errors made in software/system configuration and operation. During the IoT system selection phase, ostensibly an institutional or city need has been identified. From there, a process is executed, or set of processes, where that need is articulated for the many constituents within the city or institution whether they be city managers and citizens within a city or students, faculty, staff, and public within a large Higher Education institution such as a university or other.
