ABSTRACT

The relationship between the city or institution, that is the consumer or user of an Internet of Things (IoT) system, and the provider of that system is critically important and has a direct impact of the manageability of the IoT system. While the city or institution pursuing the deployment of an IoT system and the potential IoT system vendor/provider are both agents in the IoT ecosystem, the market nature of bringing this institution user of an IoT system together with the vendor/provider of the IoT system, creates an asymmetry. Mature IoT vendors and providers are also selective regarding the client institutions and cities that they take on, but the bulk of the market pressure is that institutions and cities shop for IoT Systems providers versus the other way around. The different alternatives of IoT systems and the respective vendors/providers of them work to avail themselves to the buyer and compete with other providers in the process.
