ABSTRACT

With all of the many components, agents, departments and organizations, systems of systems, social technical systems, and other aspects of Internet of Things (IoT) systems deployed in institutions and cities, figuring out where to start and how to proceed with implementing, supporting, and living with IoT systems can be a challenge. Systems loss mitigation work directly impacts IoT systems manageability and the likelihood of IoT systems implementation success. Within each of the IoT life cycle phases, one or more organizations will have tasks to accomplish, information to share, and questions to ask. Importantly, some of the information sharing and these questions to ask are from one organizations/department in the institution or city to another within the institution or city. To review, there are five phases in an IoT system life cycle: selection, procurement, implementation/deployment, operation/management and retirement.
