ABSTRACT

Assessment is any attempt made by a school to describe the state of a pupil's progress. All schools monitor the progress of their pupils. Setting up a new assessment system in a school is a complex business. Some departments ended up with profiles concerned mostly with levels of achievement based on the material content to be learned; while others were arguing out the possibilities of a self-assessment space on the profile for both teachers and pupils. The department aims, therefore, for the whole pupil range, are to encourage: an understanding and appreciation of historical, cultural and environmental aspects of art and design. Already the pattern of exams/tests/assessments has been changed, alongside when we report to parents and the pattern of parents evenings. In the future parents will receive one report per year; at other times of the year there will be the opportunity for parents to meet form teachers and, on a separate occasion, subject teachers.
