ABSTRACT

This chapter explores socially unacceptable behaviour in school. In the study of classroom conduct problems, it may be helpful to look for causes. The chapter explores two possible causes for abnormal behaviour observed in three pupils who are in Bill Jones's class. John was genetic and Ken was an inner emotional conflict of longstanding duration. If Bill were to attempt a behavioural analysis of his own classroom, looking for possible stimuli which precede abnormal behaviour in Carl, he would definitely benefit from some assistance. One dominant influence affecting the pupils' behaviour may well be their respective families. Behaviourists would further advise us to make a thorough analysis via observation of the consequences of Carl's antisocial behaviour. Alternatively, Bill may actually be rewarding the behaviour in Carl which he would like to see disappear.
