ABSTRACT

This chapter evaluates China's efforts of realizing an anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) strategy in the South China Sea. India's interests and its role in assuring stability and security in the region have been underlined. China's recent activities in the South China Sea clearly show that it is openly implementing its militarization plans. India has long-standing relationship in fields of culture and trade with countries surrounding the South China Sea. Indian communities in Southeast Asia supported and made important contributions to the national liberation struggle of India against colonialism. India has been playing an important role in assuring stability and security in the South China Sea. India, Japan and Australia discussed maritime security, including freedom of navigation in the South China Sea and trilateral maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. India has raised its voice and enhanced engagement to in a variety of levels to protect its interests.
