ABSTRACT

I have concentrated thus far on the development of an ideal-typical form of ­storytelling called traumatic storytelling. Though each chapter has identified numerous ways Khulumani members found room for maneuver, on the whole, the standard model of traumatic storytelling was persistent, powerful, and largely over-determined, finding itself hemmed in by the hype around the TRC, the state political investment in victim memory, the scientific discourse and practice of trauma therapy, and the intense international media, activist, and academic attention.
