ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the context of the development, the content of the plan, layout, and plan implementation regarding the industrial re-use through some case studies: Bicocca in Milan, "Sempione 55" in Milan, The new central business district of Naples, the Portello project in Milan, Genoa: the Baluardo project in the framework of the revitalization of the medieval port, the shopping centre "Le Fornaci" in Turin. Bicocca, built in Milan in 1908, is the name of one of the oldest industrial plants of the Pirelli Group. Sempione 55 is the name of the real-estate project built within an industrial area located in the northeast of Milan, facing one of the major radial axes of the city and leading directly to Castello Sforzesco, a landmark of Milan. Portello is the name of the renowned Alfa Romeo works in Milan. It became the first case of large-scale redevelopment of a disused industrial site in the city.
