ABSTRACT

Donald Meltzer and his wife, the psychoanalyst Martha Harris, decided to publish the third book separately with their own Clunie Press. The Meltzers gave a series of lectures on the three books in Oxford in 1982. Meg Harris Williams, the daughter of Martha Harris, wrote three beautiful additional texts on the Trilogy, collected in a book. The art form that Wilfred R. Bion used to reflect his psychoanalysis of thinking is comparable to the style of James Joyce and Samuel Beckett. Bion offered an explanatory key to A Memoir of the Future in which the fictitious characters are elaborated. A Memoir of the Future consists of three separate books – The Dream, The Past Presented and The Dawn of Oblivion. The book with its different characters reflects the difficulty of integrating these facets, which are not good or bad but coexist as parts of a personality.
