ABSTRACT

A transformation is a one-to-one mapping of a set of points. Wilfred R. Bion will realize that mathematics and geometry fall short of apprehending this unknown reality of O and therefore he will look for new metaphors. In geometry, the projected object can be derived by looking at the relation of the invariants: the position of some points remains the same throughout the transformations. The ineffable psychoanalytic object can be apprehended from the constant conjunction between invariants during the transformation. The perception of a connection can be related to Freud's conscious, which is determined by Bion as a tropism. The representations and the connections between the representations take place in a finite world, whereas the links in O happen in an infinite world. According to Plato, meaning is nothing but a reference to these Forms. Kant makes a similar distinction between the ineffable noumenon and the reflection of it in phenomena.
