ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an insider’s view on exploring the roles played by the Internet and social media in the emergence and development of Young Feminist Activism in China. It argues that social media provides opportunities for activism in four ways: broadening agenda setting, raising consciousness, building online communities and enriching consensus repertoire. The chapter also summarizes the media and mobilization strategies of feminist activists. It also notes that suppression from the authorities and tightening control of the Internet weakens the power of the Internet, and further undermines future feminist activism.
