ABSTRACT

Tests of mental ability can be sourced from a number of different test publishers and even found free-to-use on the Internet. Whilst tests of general mental ability are widely available, fewer test publishers break their norm groups down by industry sector, preferring to use grades, such as graduate, manager and professional. Tests of perceptual speed and accuracy are used in selection processes for many roles where there is a requirement to focus attention on specific elements of a visual or auditory input and to process the information. If tests are being applied across a range of countries consideration should be given to using tests of aptitude in the native language and of English in English. There are a small number of test publishers who have chosen to specialise in the field of aviation assessment and have tailored their tests to cover the attributes proposed by International Air Transport Association.
