Whenever engaging an enemy in battle, if there are neighboring states off to the sides, you should speak deferentially and entangle them with generous bribes in order to gain their support. Then if you attack the enemy's front while they apply a pincer strike to the rear, the enemy's troops will certainly be defeated. A tactical principle from the Art of War states: "On focal terrain unite with your allies."
