ABSTRACT
Whenever the enemy is strong and vigorous while your officers and troops are doubtful and confused, unwilling to obey orders, you must thrust them onto fatal terrain. Issue orders to the Three Armies showing that there is no intent to preserve yourselves. Slaughter the oxen and burn your wagons in order to provide a final feast for your generals, officers, and troops. Incinerate your fodder and cast aside your provisions, fill in the wells and smash your cooking utensils, severing and abandoning all thoughts of life, for then you will be victorious. A tactical principle from the Wu-tzu states: "When death is certain, they will live."
