ABSTRACT

Whenever engaging in battle, if the enemy is numerous while you are few, if the enemy is strong while you are weak, it is not strategically advantageous for the army If the enemy has come from afar but their supply lines are unbroken, it is also not advantageous. In both cases you cannot engage them in battle but should instead solidify your walls and maintain a prolonged defense in order to fatigue them, for then the enemy can be destroyed. A tactical principle from the Art of War states: "Not engaging in combat lies with us."
