ABSTRACT
The consequences of a degenerating ethical climate are bad enough in our current time of peace; they would be disastrous in war. War places men under unparalleled pressure, no matter where in the forces they serve. At all levels tough decisions must be made—decisions that can cost lives. There is no room for anything but an eye toward the common good here. Mutual trust is indispensable if the forces are to operate the way they must. The whole structure of discipline and esprit de corps will disintegrate if officers cannot see past their own wants and aspirations.
