ABSTRACT

Different types of skepticism have different targets. Even if escape one type, another one might be lying in wait: Threat: Infallibility skepticism. Infallibility skepticism denies that there is any knowledge. Rene Descartes's Cogito denied that denial, claiming that there is some knowledge. In any event, inductive skepticism enters the story. Even if have some knowledge of an external world, this does not ensure that have very much knowledge of it. For example, without knowing how that hand will react to internal stimuli or external stimuli. The inductive skeptic's talk of the world undergoing a sudden and radical change thus parallels the earlier skeptical ideas—the evil demon and dreaming. The skeptic's point is that never know that sudden change is not around the corner. Whenever make an inductive prediction, there is risk involved. It is skeptical, in that Hume accepts the skeptical argument.
