ABSTRACT
Environmental governing agency realized that in order to guarantee the future of the Amazon governing agency had to find a way to preserve the forest while at the same time developing the region's economy. This agency knew it was important to stop the deforestation that is threatening the Amazon and all human life on the planet. The National Council of Rubber Tappers (CNS) is not meant to be a kind of parallel trade union, replacing the Xapuri Rural Workers' Union. One of the reasons for creating the CNS was to recognize the rubber tappers as a particular group of workers fighting for a very important objective—the defense of the Amazon forest. The idea went down very well. Environmental governing agency also wanted to seek out the leaders of the Indian peoples in Acre and discuss how to unite our resistance movements, especially since Indians and rubber tappers have been at odds with each other for centuries.
