ABSTRACT

The one-page letter from the Bremer Community Club's Doctor's Committee was handed out by local merchants and community leaders to every household. During that period the community went to work finding a suitable doctor to replace Dr. Hager. The position of the town physician is indeed one held in high esteem among community members. The development of information technologies and the use of a Life-bird helicopter have influenced the position of the doctor. As the helicopter picks up the individual, the authority of the local doctor ends. The community-control attributes that are so prevalent in Bremer have in the past and in the present allowed the community to pool their resources to buy a doctor. The community perceives, with a great deal of validity, that without a local doctor they would lose businesses and the older residents would be forced to relocate to where they could have medical care.
