The Structural Flaws of Oslo and Camp David II, and the Second Intifada

The factors that allowed the reproduction and intensification of the occupation and its worsening consequences have remained more or less unchanged since the first years of the Oslo process. Deteriorating conditions were bound to produce another upheaval, another intifada—the Al-Aqsa Intifada—against the brutal Israeli occupation, under the complicit rule of the Palestinian Authority. This chapter analyzes the deteriorated conditions in an effort to explain the political explosion that the Al-Aqsa, or Second, Intifada of 2000 was a response to.
