ABSTRACT

Geographically speaking, Mexico is a land of contrasts, a mosaic of distinct units that run the gamut from tropical to temperate to virtually glacial. The vast majorities of Mexicans are neither Europeans nor Amerindians. They are mestizos and often have trouble accepting their racially mixed culture. Mexicans are different from other Latin Americans as well as North Americans. The enigma also the beauty of Mexican cultures is that Mexico for centuries has experiencing what Europe, United States, Canada, and other regions of the world are only beginning to experience: collisions and confusions of cultural contact zones resulting from massive migration and immigration. The enigmatic process or many cultures flowing into a fluctuating Mexican culture is further along than in most other Latin American countries. In part since racial mixture is further along in Mexico than in any other Latin American country in Mexico there is also a political and economic system that has some of its roots in pre-Hispanic traditions.
