ABSTRACT

The chapters that follow examine the Kimist state in its post-1958 phase and deal primarily with the policy outcomes that flowed from Kim's establishment of a personal autocracy during the 1960s. Kim Chung-nin: demoted from full to alternate Politburo membership in December 1984, left the Secretariat soon after, 13 dropped altogether from the Politburo in 1986. Reappointed as a Party Secretary in 1990 but did not regain his former Politburo status. Passing reference to the various ways in which Kim II Sung was influenced by the life and works of Joseph Stalin has already been made. Congress delegates elect members to two major committees which deal with Party matters between congresses, namely, the Central Committee (CC) and the Political Committee/Politburo. The current constitutional order was promulgated through the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) on 27 December 1972, and provides the framework for the machinery of government.
