ABSTRACT
The charge of sexism, carrying with it serious social and moral connotations, is being leveled with even greater frequency and conviction at individuals, institutions, policies, and even language patterns. The slogan "sexism is a social disease" reminds that sexism is something that pervades a very broad range of human activity. Sex inequality is an intolerable evil and, like all other forms of injustice, it should be named, challenged, disapproved of, and eradicated. If education is so structured that girls and women are disadvantaged by virtue of their sex, then they will be restricted in their growth toward autonomy and self-determination, their vocational aspirations and opportunities, and their abilities to enter fully into the creation of culture. If women indeed represent a group that is discriminated against in society, then it is as wrong to teach children sexist values as it is to teach them racist values.
