ABSTRACT
The relative success of the SU3 mass formula, and the relevant choice of an asymmetric solution by spontaneous breakdown and bootstrap equations are explained by the suggestion of an additional interaction, similar to electromagnetism but some ten times stronger, mediated by a vector meson coupled to the strangeness S=Y–B current. The possibility that this interaction may also be responsible for the muon mass is investigated.
