ABSTRACT

In the preceding chapter we constructed the Landau-Ginsburg equations from a postulated form of the free energy F, which introduces an unknown coefficient [for example, the coefficient C of (6-7)] giving the energy associated with spatial variations in the order parameter. Gorkov (1959) has shown that it is possible to establish the Landau-Ginsburg equations from the microscopic theory and to calculate in particular the coefficient C. Here we give a simplified version of this calculation.
